It's still amazing.

These "old" guys rock! Great musicians in the band. Their concerts surprise people who haven't seen them lately. My macho husband has become a big fan, after seeing 2 of their concerts this year.

The Definitive Collection

The Definitive Collection

Review: By "nikko_b"
You have to respect the genius of a group that can, without having to resort to using thunderous guitars (Megadeth, Pantera) or earth quaking bass (almost all modern R&B groups) can still somehow grab your very soul and take it for an emotional ride not letting go until the very last harmonic crescendo. "Air Supply: The Definitive Collection" sets out with a very defined mission. To allow the listener to experience the deepest levels of romantic musical expression in the most profound ways possible. And man does it ever deliver (Remember almost ninety percent of Air Supply's songs include "love" in the title)! This is simply the best single-CD compilation of the band's hits. The sound quality surpasses all previous collections, and the versions included are digitally remastered from the original and are full length (an earlier Greatest Hits collection shaved off a few seconds here and there).

The Definitive Collection was released August 26, 1999 with all the hits, plus the original version of Lost in Love and other songs that became classics (although not all were actually singles). The package has new artwork and notes from Graham and Russell about every song. All their biggest hits of the 80's on one album--you can't go wrong. Russell Hitchcock and his nearly 4 octave range voice are showcased beautifully on these songs. His ability to hold a note for the record books is evident in "All Out of Love" whose last note is the longest held note by a singer in music history. Then there are the great harmonies along with Graham Russell. They've continued to give us so much good music in the years since but it's always nice to go back and hear where it all began for them in the USA. These songs are HUGE hits and every one is a classic.

The Best of Air Supply: Ones That You Love

The Best of Air Supply: Ones That You Love

Review; By Humberto Mejias
Luis Mejia (son) - this Air Supply compilation, The Best Of Air Supply, is definitively the perfect compilation with a group of beautiful, cohersive hits from one of the most important soft rock bands, and certainly the best for starting to listen to them. Containing a set of international hits from their most important albums, like their three greatest studio albums: Lost In Love, containing their most impressive vocal performance in the title track Lost In Love (#5),

The international, extremely famous and melodic All Out Of Love (#2), Every Woman In The World (#5), and the dramatic Chances; The One That You Love, being their international breakthough, this compilation contains its hits Here I Am (Just When I Thought I Was Over You) (#5), the theatrically driven title track The One That You Love (#1), and the heavily orchestrated Sweet Dreams (#5); and their last brilliant successful album, Now And Forever, containing the magical/best Even The Nights Are Better (#5), the melodic but kind of dull Young Love (#38), and the most beautiful, romantic Two Less Lonely People In The World (#38). Of course, it also contains the all time classic, super potent Making Love Out Of Nothing At All. It results even impressive to see also in this album more exentric but still beautiful minor hits in their earliest albums like Love And Other Bruises, Air Supply and even Hearts In Motion, as these minor hits does not put the listener to compare and contrast, it is just for having different points of view and to enter into a delicate "acquired taste" of Air Supply. The booklet does not contain lyrics but it does contains the songs' titles with their charts position and albums, and most better, the songs' order is cronological and in album order; it also contains a small biography of the band. So, here you have it, as Air Supply live their gratest potential throughout their hits, I strongly suggest to buy a compilation first, and most adequate The Best Of Air Supply, containing the most of their romantic, famous and most brilliant compositions in an specific order and with few but consistent and comprehensible traces of minor hits to enter into an acquired taste for Air Supply, but for die hard fans don't expect The World Is... or The Book Of Love, much less Across The Concrete Sky and Air Supply 1976. After buying this compilation, if you were convinced and may want to explore their studio efforts, I strongly recommend to buy first Lost In Love and/or The One That You Love, both their finest and most famous moments in studio, and later you may want to check out their last platinum Now And Forever, but just AFTER one of this two and this ESSENTIAL compilation, as if you got the message of Now And Forever, you may have gotten a strong taste for Air Supply and buy any of their other albums, at last, who would say romantic ballads are 'dated'!

So What [Explicit]

So What [Explicit]

Review; By J.J. Willard

I've loved P!nk's ever-changing style and attitude from her very first album. This new single is no exception, either. P!nk wonderfully gives all her passion in this song, which is easily heard if you know what to listen for.

Although, I do not agree with the negative views of this single, I will still respect their opinion as long as they give a solid reason as to why they do not like it. Simply saying "it sounds the same as her other tracks" doesn't suffice in my opinion. Of course the general sound is the same; that's why all of her tracks belong in the same genres! I don't see those people giving one star reviews to any other bands because all of their songs sound like a certain genres..

The bottom line is that P!nk writes songs for a reason. If you are not intelligent enough to figure out what the inspiration for her songs are, then I really don't know what to tell you. This is a good song, because of the pop rock sound and P!nk's amazing voice & attitude to back them up.

Very beautiful!

Wow! I never thought she could sing like that in 99! What a voice! But slightly behind the music throughout the song. Dramatic pauses? Total Diva...love it!

Diana Ross' Greatest Hits

Diana Ross' Greatest Hits

Review: By Matt Tawesson

This album title of Diana Ross is one of her best ever. This is not a complete anthology of her work; it is mainly a sample of her best recordings with the Motown label during her solo era. The ten songs that are on this title were recorded and released from 1970-1976. It contains the long versions of "Love Hangover" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough". It really saddens me that this album is still not available for Diana's fans to get.

I had read a review that this album has not been put through the remaster process, and probably never will. In my own opinion in general, that is really not to be believed; it should be made available sometime soon as well as her other certain solo album titles on CD that were unjustly deleted. That way, fans will have a wider variety of albums of hers to buy. I wish that Motown had an online petition for fans to sign to get this title and Diana's other deleted titles reissued on CD, or an address for people to write to, but there doesn't seem to be one of those. But, the best compilation title of Diana's that is closest to this is her 2 disc "Motown Anthology". That title set has a wider variety and most of the songs that this Greatest Hits has. To the folks at Motown: Get the master tape of this album out of the vaults, put it through the remaster process and bring it back along with her other 70s solo titles PLEASE!!!!

The Definitive Collection [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]

The Definitive Collection [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]

review: By Paul Tognetti "aspiring reviewer specializing...

During the years 1964 to 1986 few artists dominated the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart like Diana Ross. As lead singer of the Supremes and later as a solo artist Diana placed more than 70 tunes on the charts. During her years as lead singer of the Supremes Diana would have an remarkable 12 #1 hits! When she made the decision in 1969 to leave the Supremes to pursue a solo career Diana was on top of the world. Many of her fans wondered if she was making the right decision.

But Diana longed to pursue new musical vistas and over the next 15 years the music of Diana Ross would continue to be a fixture on radio stations all across America and around the world. "The Definitive Collection" from Hip-O records presents 20 of the biggest and best hits from Diana's highly successful solo career. You will find not only her great hits from Motown but all of her biggest hits from her time at RCA as well.
So what is your favorite Diana Ross song???? There are certainly plenty to choose from. Oddly enough, her biggest hit after she left the Supremes was really not a solo at all. She recorded the theme song from the motion picture "Endless Love" with Motown label mate Lionel Richie. That one spent 9 weeks at the top of the charts in the summer of 1981. Yes, you will find it on "The Definitive Collection". You will also find other outstanding Motown hits like the #1 "Theme From Mahoghany(Do You Know Where You're Going To)", 1973's #1 smash "Touch Me In The Morning" and one of my personal favorites "It's My Turn".
And if that were not enough enjoy once again unforgettable hits like "I'm Coming Out", "Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)" and the quirky 1974 release "Last Time I Saw Him". I love that tune! And of course no Diana Ross collection would be complete without her remake of the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell classic "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" which hit the top of the charts in the golden year 1970.
Fast forward now to the Fall of 1981. For the second time in her career Diana Ross makes a controversial career decision. Diana has opted to leave her comfortable surroundings at Motown Records. She signs a contract with RCA. How did that work out?? Over the next few years Diana would score with four more Top Ten hits. All are included in "The Definitive Collection".
These are songs you just don't hear on the radio anymore. You are sure to enjoy Diana's version of Frankie Lymons rollicking "Why Do Fools Fall In Love", the Top 10 hit "Muscles" and her moving tribute to her pal Marvin Gaye "Missing You". All of the tracks on "The Definitive Collection" are the original hits you would remember from the radio. The songs have been lovingly remastered to ensure maximum enjoyment and a beautiful 16 page booklet containing biographical information and chart data is included. For my money, "The Definitive Collection" should be considered essential in any collection of American popular music. Well done and highly recommended!

Everything Is Everything [EXTRA TRACKS] [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]

Everything Is Everything [EXTRA TRACKS] [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]

Description
Everything Is Everything, Diana Ross’s 1970 sophomore solo album, is finally available on CD. Released even as her debut solo album was still on the charts, EIE featured productions by Deke Richards, the leader of the "Corporation" team responsible for the Jackson 5 hits.

The album didn’t produce a major hit along the lines of "Ain’t No Mountain High Enough," Ross’s big smash that year, but "I’m Still Waiting" became a U.K. No. 1. "I Love You (Call Me)," a cover of Aretha Franklin’s hit, was nominated for a Grammy® (it lost to Aretha herself). The complete, fascinating story is all here in this beautiful, expanded edition that includes seven bonus tracks from the Motown vault. Among the stunning bonus tracks are unreleased covers of the Beatles "Something" and the Oscar®nominated song "What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life," alternate lyrics to "Ain’t No Sad Song," a remix of "Come Together" – plus the hit U.K. remix of "I’m Still Waiting." In the booklet, Deke himself tells fascinating stories of the album’s genesis. Why, even as Ashford & Simpson were cutting the tracks that became the hits, Berry Gordy asked him to make this album. How, months after the album’s release, the U.K. embraced "I’m Still Waiting." How the longest title in Diana’s repertoire came to be. How Deke wished to get Burt Bacharach to write a song for Diana, and what resulted instead. What happened to the bonus tracks—and where in all this fits Motown’s west coast guru Hal Davis. Featuring stunning never-before seen photos, detailed annotations, digitally remastered audio, and never-before heard studio chatter, this collection is a must-add for every Diana Ross fan.

Shakira MTV Unplugged

Shakira MTV Unplugged

Review; By G. Merritt

Consider this album Exhibit "A" to my argument that, as a country we should embrace the rich Latin American culture, rather than building fences at our borders. Born in Colombia (and fluent in English, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, French, and Italian), Shakira is a Latina singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, and dancer, best known for her powerful, contralto voice and sensual Arabic dance moves.

This album reveals two things: Shakira is a perfectionist, and there is beauty in the Latin culture. Her critically-acclaimed 1999 MTV Unplugged performance in New York features 11 songs drawn mostly from her popular 1998 Spanish album, Dónde Están los Ladrones?, which was nominated for a Grammy Award. Those tracks include:

1. Octavo Día (En Vivo) 6:05
2. Si Te Vas (En Vivo) 3:54
3. Dónde Están Los Ladrones (En Vivo) 3:22
4. Moscas En La Casa (En Vivo) 4:02
5. Ciega, Sordomuda (En Vivo) 4:09
6. Inevitable (En Vivo) 3:39
7. Estoy Aquí (En Vivo) 4:58
8. Tú (En Vivo) 5:22
9. Sombra De Ti (En Vivo) 4:07
10. No Creo (En Vivo) 4:08
11. Ojos Así (En Vivo) 6:50

The Remixes : by Shakira,

The Remixes

This CD includes remixes of several of Shakira's biggest hits as of 1997. What I liked were the Portuguese versions, my favorite being "Estou Aqui". I appreciate that Latin artists are taking time to reach out to Brazilian and European audiences.

I had never heard of Shakira before she released this cross-over English album, but it took less than a second for me to become a fan. I first encountered Shakira's name atop a list of most popular videos and wondered who in the world this performer was. The Whenever, Wherever video totally blew me away; I admit it took a couple of viewings for me to get past her beauty and all of those amazing little moves and shakes she has perfected, but pretty quickly I realized that the song in and of itself was addictive.

Soon I was watching both the English and Spanish videos of the song, eagerly awaiting the moment when a CD full of Shakira's music would find its way to my stereo. As someone not very familiar with Latin music, this album brings a whole new type of sound into my world, and my appreciation and interest in this style has grown immeasurably as a result of my buying this album. My respect for Shakira likewise grew in leaps and bounds as I learned more about her, such as the fact that at 24 she not only wrote or co-wrote all of these songs but also produced them, as well as the fact that she was already one of the most popular Latin singers in her part of the world.

There is a lot of variety to be found on this album; alongside traditional Latin stylings, Shakira incorporates elements of Spanish, Arabic, and even good old American rock and roll music, melding all of these influences into a sound that is uniquely her own. Laundry Services offers up nine English-language songs, two Spanish tracks, and the Spanish versions of her two biggest hits. Now I wish I hadn't forgotten all the Spanish I learned in college, but it really doesn't matter all that much. Listening to Shakira sing in her native language is mesmerizing and provides a much clearer example of her unstoppable musical talent. Her English songs are great, but clearly she is more comfortable singing in Spanish, and the opportunity to listen to two great songs in both of their versions can be pretty illuminating. Whenever, Wherever pulses with obvious pop appeal, and it alone certainly earned Shakira this particular fan; its Spanish-language version, Suerte, is even more enjoyable. Underneath Your Clothes is a nice ballad that offers up the softer side of Shakira but fails to communicate the immense talents she has at her disposal. Tengo is a song that may not appeal to everyone, but I think its strong tango introduction makes for a great beginning of this cross-over album; closing the album with the Spanish-language version of the song, Te Aviso, Te Anuncio, is an equally nice and symmetrical touch. The One is another excellent ballad, while The Fool is a song that I would definitely release as a single; these two songs rival Whenever, Wherever as the best tracks on the album. Poem to a Horse is a rocking little number that belies its rather timid-sounding title. I don't know what Shakira is saying in Te Dejo Madrid and Que Me Quedes Tu, but I certainly like how she is saying it. The one and only song that comes across as a little weak is Rules, but I would like to say for the record that I personally would have no problem following any rules that Shakira might require of me.

This album isn't perfect, and in some ways it is a fairly unusual crossover album. Shakira's newly-learned English is not perfectly understandable at times (but the liner notes do contain all of the song lyrics) but her voice always resonates the beauty and passion and incredible talent she carries inside her. The Spanish tracks serve an important dual purpose - assuring her long-time Latin music fans that she has not abandoned them for the US market and allowing people like me to get an understanding and develop an appreciation of the incredible Latin music we have been missing out on all these years. Shakira has it all as far as I'm concerned, a true musical artist with a commitment to her career and to her fans all over the world that will assure her success for many years to come.

The album of Shakira : "Oral Fixation Vol. 2"

Oral Fixation Vol. 2

Review : By R. Guardado "nicktony12"

This review is from: Oral Fixation Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
Oral Fixation V.2 is smart, creative, thoughtful, new, fresh, inspiring, daring, and breaks from the conventional mainstream pop sound. This album is not your one night stand plastic pop kind of album---it's really beyond entertainment for those who take the time to understand it. If you like dance music and carefree lyrics go to Madonna, Rihanna, Fergie, and yes Britney Spears. However, Shakira is something else--something above them in terms of actual meaning and art. This is directly due to the fact that Shakira is fully responsible for writing her own lyrics.

Therefore, it's not surprising that many don't like Shakira because of her unique and "new" take on the pop world. Yet, she continues to have millions of loyal fans that continue to support her and continue to show her that there are many out there who have discovered her beauty and this treasure called Oral Fixation V.2

Her lyrics are awesome but they are deep and full of hidden meaning.

1. How do you do? Is the first song in the album. It is a direct attack to the Catholic church. One of Shakira's memorable lines is :You've made mistakes/Well that's OK' cause we all have/But if I forgive yours/Will you forgive mine?

2. Illegal--is the 2nd song of the album. A memorable lyrics is: "You don't even know the meaning of the words "I'm sorry"/You said you would love me until you die/And as far as I kno you're still alive, baby/You don't even know the meaning of the words "I'm sorry."/I'm starting to believe it should be illegal to deceive a woman's heart."

3. Hips Don't Lie--I won't even go into this one. Everyone knows about this song.

4. Animal City---the most memorable lyric is "With you I feel safe/There's nothing to fear from us/Away from the fangs/The fangs of the world/I may be a coward but you are brave/And nothing seems so dangerous"

5. Don't BOther---there are several memorable lines but here my favorite "I'm sure she doesn't know/How to touch you like I would/I beat her at that one good/ Don't you think so?/She's almost 6 feet tal/She must think I'm a flea/ I'm really a cat you see/ And it's not my last life at all

6. The Day and the Time--The most memorable lyrics is "Well, we know/How empemeral life is/Disillusion takes what illusion gives/What's the use of make believe?/This is the day and the time/ I wanna believe that we may still have a chance/We took a leap in the dark/And I can see now/ How our shawdows have turn to light

7. The Day and the Time---"Once upon a time you and I/When we were dreaming easy/Fresh as limes and happy as a Sunday sky/There was nothing we could sell or buy/Cause all we really needed/Was our bare feet and a pair of wings to fly"

8. Hey You---"Hey you/Makin' an offer that/No one could ever refuse/Don't play the adamant/Don't be so arrogant/ Can't you see I've fallen for ya?

9. Your Embrace--"HOpe it isn't too late/To say 'I love you'/Hope it isn't too late to say/ That without you this place looks like London/It rains every day/Don't you know it, babe/I'm only half a body/Without your embrace"

I wanna go on but you get the picture. You will love this album. Just give it a chance.
