Katy Perry's "I kissed a girl" is a cheesy,overproduced "hit" in the same vein as Jill Sobule's song of the same name (tho Sobule was able to get a Fabio cameo in her music video) "I kissed a girl" is perfect for the dancefloor. If you're not listening to the lyrics,you can get into the groove.
"I kissed a girl" is basically "I'm kissing a girl,I hope my boyfriend doesn't mind,I'm so naughty!" It's a nudge/wink attitude towards lesbian romance rather than something more serious by Melissa Etheridge or Toshi Reagon. Etheridge's "Come to my window" lashes out at society for not understanding her sapphic love. On the other hand, Perry is reveling in her naughtiness.
"I kissed a girl" is a tease... but nothing comes of it. With the same-sex wedding issue in California,it's oddly relevant. But Perry's contribution is hardly serious.
